James Oppy learned "the trade" at Patience & Nicholson in Maryborough and then moved to Handley Pty. Ltd. Melbourne before commencing his business in Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne in 1961.The business was moved to its current location in 1967.
James' son Jonathan, entered the business in 1973 after completing his formal training as a metallurgist. He became Managing Director in 1980 and has been responsible for the successful implementation of the latest nitriding process (NiRich) as well as implementing Australia's first 10 Bar Vacuum furnace.
Jon's son-in-law Boyd Hoath started working at Oppy's in 2008 as the Operations Manager. Boyd graduated from University with a Bachelor of Business, double major in Marketing and Human Resource Management. Boyd runs the Vacuum Heat Treatment plant and has been instrumental in driving new business.
Oppy Heat Treatment has proven its expertise by leading the heat treatment industry into the new millenium. The company looks likely to continue its growth in the near future and expand the business into other states of Australia.
